Matheran is for you, IF…

Matheran Trip- Hill Station

Amidst all the chaos we are surrounded with, it becomes necessary to unwind ourselves into the realms of Nature. To choose between hills and seas is another task. But because the sea seems to be the easiest option, this time we chose to visit the hills. Destination selected- Matheran, Maharashtra. A two-day small trip was a getaway to recall ourselves from the continuous ticking of the busy clock ritual. Reaching at Matheran was a 10-hour drive for us. Stay was at MTDC, which turned out to be a huge spacious lodging in the lap of nature. Trees, and monkeys all around, the cottage was comfortable, and clean. Though I would not like to give the same rating to the food available in Matheran.

Matheran is famous for its toy train, and horse rides, but if you can walk, nothing better than that. Matheran is also a calling for leather bags, and Kolhapuri chappals. Try bargaining and you can get good stuff to run a year or so. It gives you the vibe of being a tourist/ commercial place. The quietness is only available in the resort you choose to stay in. So, choose wisely.

Should you visit Matheran?

Well, it does not have anything extravagant to offer. It is a usual place, which unfortunately can be skipped from your travel list. And if you really want to go and visit Matheran try considering the below points,

1. Can you walk without any difficulty? How much of a walker you are!! Rocky roads of Matheran require good shoes and healthy walking skills.
2. Hopefully you are not obese- Well, if you can not walk, there are another options of horse ride, and hand rickshaw, where a person pulls the rickshaw with his hands, another pushes from behind. In case you want to avail these facilities, please do not be overweight. No body shaming here, better to think about the animals and humans carrying us.
3. If you are a good driver, nothing better than that. If you are not, considering hiring an expert, in case you choose road.

Matheran is a good destination for people living in its proximity. But for people living far, India has better options.
